Dr. Bernstein was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio followed by a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree (DPM) from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (now called the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine) in 1989. He completed his residency at Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Detroit, MI.
