Roofing can be categorized by style (e.g., gable, hip, shed, mansard) and material (e.g., asphalt shingles, metal, wood shakes, tile). Styles are architectural designs like the gable roof, which has two sloping sides that meet at a ridge, and the hip roof, which slopes on all sides. Materials are the physical products used to construct the roof, and choices depend on factors like appearance, cost, and longevity.
