Very disappointed. First Choice Contracting, Corp. (Troy Kollmer) strung us along for 10 months and never completed our project. He first told us he does construction laons with bank then constantly asked for endless money from our pocket or he will stop working. He started our project in September. After endless lies that we would start work all summer long beginning in june .Hardly showed up to do work from September through march. Interesting that he had 60% of the jobs total budget paid up in full by November and then barely showed up after that to do work at our house. Whatever work he did do either came out just "okay" or subpar. Considering after 10 months the town just failed us for the strapping inspection. He Did not have a strong work ethic. Quality was not great. Took unnecessary shortcuts to make life easier for him but impacted the quality of our project. No part of our job was actually completed in full. He left everything half done or not started at all. In addition, he misread plans for framing that now need to be redone along with every nail put into plywood and all hurricane straps as well . We asked for an updated contract and an estimated completion date for months, since every step of the way he asked for more money beacuse he mispriced originally...Never got it. He did a poor job overall installed the subfloor poorly. We have creaks in multiple spots of our brand new subfloor. He broke our baywindow in process and said we have to pay to fix it. He never installed the copper flashing to prevent termite damage as drawn in plans, Said he will fix it and never did. Have all of our communication in texts saved in a pdf with all of his lies and excuses. Even have one saying he would have house done months before my wife gave birth my child is now 3 months old and still not done framing. He would mostly send one of his guys over to give us two hours here and there while he was on other jobs or would just sit in his truck on phone. In researching, apparently he has done this to other clients and his own subcontractors have issues with him as well. Saying he's unreliable and owes them money. This is one year of our lives we will never get back and he did not care at all about the impact and inconvenience his actions or lack thereof had on us and our family. All we want now is to part ways and him sign a release, he said the only way that is happening is if we give him another $12,520.The amount of stress and anxiety it caused us and the amount of extra money it is costing us to have someone finish things we technically already paid for that he didn't finish and also have to pay extra to have someone fix the things he didn't do correctly. Save yourself time, money, and headache and move along. Find a different contractor who is professional, honest, and takes pride in their work

Troy Kollmer - It is disheartening that you continue to take no responsibility for the 9 months of stress and anxiety you put us through. We have had conversations with other clients of yours as well as some of your subcontractors who have had issues with you. Maybe if you and some of your subcontractors took pride in their work, did things correctly and in a timely manner, we wouldn't have had any issues. As you are aware - You never ordered the materials for our project in a timely manner nor showed up to do work on our house when you were supposed to. Once you received all of our money in December 2020 you hardly showed up from January 2021 - June 2021. The most we would get is 2 hours here and there. We told you from day one we didn't want Anderson windows. You wanted us to settle and take whatever half wood-half vinyl Anderson windows your supplier had in stock - which we didn't want. We wanted all vinyl - which you knew. After many requests, it took you a month to finally give us the window measurements so that we could finally order the windows ourselves since you were dragging your feet. Then you didn't measure correctly and installed one of our windows off-center and then had to re-install it correctly - after our quartz window sill was already installed. We did all of the research on how to install the fireplace because you didn't read the directions or call the company yourself. You installed our hood incorrectly the first time because you didn't read the directions that were provided to you months prior and you wouldn't call the company yourself. We had to do a lot of leg work ourselves on this project. If we didn't, nothing would have gotten done. We are not hurt that you walked off our unfinished job. We gave you plenty of time and were more than accommodating to you and your subcontractors. It was your conscious choice to do what you did to us. We certainly didn't want you dragging out our project for another 9 months. There is only so much a family can take living through construction and having no holidays celebrated at their home and not being able to have family from out of town stay over because of the condition of our unfinished living quarters. You literally stored your equipment in our house for 6 months rent free. You have a reputation of doing work for people as they owe you money, then as soon as they don't owe you money anymore, you either hardly work on their project or you stop working on their project altogether because you've moved on to a new job to collect your checks until that person is done paying you - and the pattern repeats itself. We have been working with a new contractor that is professional, knows how to run a business, and has been showing up when he says he will. He does quality work and we have had no issues. It has been a stress free process. We have a list of all the work items you promised us you would fix and you never did. We don't owe you any money because you never completed our job. We already paid you for the items you did complete or started but unfortunately, did not complete. If anything, you owe us money for all of the items that still need to be completed or fixed such as flashing around door and windows, new subfloor you put in that now creaks badly in 4 spots, LVP that is coming apart, chipped backsplash and a scratched range hood from install, walls that needed to be sanded and touched up, nail holes filled, caulking all the trim, etc. I have pages and pages of our text correspondence printed out over the last 9 months that show how negligible you have been. You texted us months back that if you were not at our house every day until our job was complete, you would give us a full refund. That never happened either. You lied to us about ordering our interior doors - which you never did. Tried to upcharge us $1000 for new stair posts and railings from "your guy" We know this because we had several estimates done. You also promised that our mantle would be ready in a week. According to your supplier, he said - "I would have a better chance of winning a million dollars and getting a date with Halle Berry than having the mantle done in a week. That mantle will not be ready for a while because I am in the process of making a bunch of columns for a house" You never had any intention of finishing our job. You just strung us along for 9 months and hoped we would go away because you already got our money. For you to argue with us over a poor business review - on the actual business review, just shows how unprofessional you are. We've been through this many times. You state the same lies over and over and you take no responsibility for your actions. We feel it is important to be good neighbors and bring awareness to the community about an unprofessional, disorganized, and unreliable business that performs substandard work. We hope that no one else experiences what we and some others went through.

Dear Lisa Morris ( beware all other contractors) In 25 years I never came across a homeowner that was not able to make a single decision on a single item. It's sad to see this. Constantly obsessing over making a decision it's sad seeing someone like this. Hundreds of free hours helping but we just went in circles repeating the same thing over and over. Then find out the homeowner try's to get your trades to work for them on the side real snakes. Constantly changing things outside the contract like. 400 TW Anderson window to Lowe's pella's cheapest line. Changing the fire mantle 3x's on me Changing the raise panels design 5x's on me. The list goes on and on. I'm only allowed 5000 letters I would need 1 million letters to write it all out AFTER YOU DO WHAT THEY WANT YOU THEN YOU GET THE DUMB RESPONSE" I'M A VISUAL PERSON , SORRY I DIDN'T KNOW IT WOULD LOOK LIKE THAT. Then they get so hurt when you finally walk off the job even when they owe you money. The stress she gave my trades and I was insane. I had to beg my trades to please go back to her house. I guess I'm ahead of the game , one wacko in 25 years not bad.

First Choice Contracting, Corp./Troy Kollmer in Melville, NY should be your last choice! Took our money for a renovation project and strung us along with lies and excuses for 9 months. Didn't complete our project. Left things incomplete or not started. Did subpar work and left things damaged without fixing them. Save yourself from stress, anxiety, distress, and loss of money and hire someone else to do your project. Found out after the fact that we are not the first family he did this too. In addition, his own sub contractors have issues with him as far as scheduling jobs and payment. He doesn't know how to manage his business. Completely disorganized.
