Descartes Biometrics Inc. is a technology company creating revolutionary biometric security and authentication solutions for the mobile sector. Who We Are. Descartes Biometrics, Inc. is a US-based technology company committed to the design, development, and marketing of biometric security solutions specifically for the mobile sector. We’re a group of intentional thinkers – scientists, developers, professors, and designers – inventing revolutionary technology and software that we believe will shape the future of how humans interact with the modern world. It’s no secret smartphone security is lacking. PINs are easily lost, forgotten, stolen, shared or even hacked. At Descartes Biometrics, Inc. we are working on a range of robust and reliable yet elegant and easy to use biometric authentication solutions that are fully integrated into your smartphone, tablet or other portable device. Why "Descartes"? Our company name pays homage to René Descartes, the 17th century mathematician, philosopher and writer known as the “Father of Modern Philosophy.” Descartes, a key figure in the Scientific Revolution, was the first to describe the physical universe in terms of matter and motion, and he laid the groundwork for modern mathematics and Cartesian geometry (which we use in our software). However, René Descartes is perhaps best known as a visionary philosopher who challenged the conventions of his time using rationalism and doubt to deconstruct ideas before rebuilding knowledge from the ground. His famous statement “Cogito ergo sum,” which means “I think, therefore I am,” became a fundamental premise of Western philosophy. Much like Descartes, we are reshaping the way people think about identity. Identity Matters. Coincidentally, “IAM,” or Identity and Access Management, is at the heart of what we do. At Descartes Biometrics, Inc. we see a world free of PINs, tokens, badges, card readers, and dongles; instead, we see a world where your unique identity is your key. We’re in the business of unlocking the potential of human characteristics, allowing the right individuals to access the right resources at the right times for the right reasons. We recognize the importance of reliable, secure, convenient biometric solutions to protect what matters most – your identity.
