FYI, I didn't write this as one giant block of text but it seems this site won't allow for separate paragraphs. It's a brilliant business model when you think about it- put a bunch of forms in front of an impossibly tired person, offering them a good night's sleep, and watch the money roll in. I assumed that durable medical equipment was sort of like a referral to a specialist doctor. I'd asked my doctor about a CPAP company that takes my insurance and made a beeline straight to C2C as soon as I got their info.Please learn from my mistake- you can go anywhere you want and often it's cheaper without insurance. I checked out C2C's website, wondering why half their site is placeholder text and apparently has been for years. But man, I was tired. CPAP sounded like the promised land and these people were holding out the keys, albeit for a price. A big one. My introductory chat with Brian, the owner, was delightful- such a lovely lilting accent, I didn't even notice I was getting utterly and completely SNOWED. Once off the phone, I was emailed forms I had to sign to receive the equipment. The problem- the forms required sign-off that I'd already received the equipment. My sleepy self ignored all the huge red flags reading "SUPER SHADY" and threw caution to the wind along with my credit card. Roughly 400 dollars. Nonrefundable, naturally. Brian and I had agreed on a mask based on my sleep patterns. They sent me a different one. I asked them to send the right mask. They sent it to the wrong address. Even the CPAP machine wasn't the one promised. I got billed for nasal pillows that I didn't need nor receive. The piece de resistance- a direct quote from Brian, after I'd tried to follow up on an email- "I am frequently booked with appointments throughout the day and can not answer every call nor email." There's really nothing like a holier-than-thou brushoff when it comes to your health. At least they don't pretend to be responsive- two points for honesty and-15 points for compassion. When I raised these specific issues to C2C, I didn't receive a response for weeks. After a nudge, I received no apology or half-hearted rebuttal- merely a "we sent you masks" message as if that was a grand, charitable gesture and not their most basic business function. Impatient to cut ties and stop all the billing to Aetna AND me, I'm shipping back my equipment first thing tomorrow. I've taken photos of the contents of the box and am requiring a signature at delivery.  I'm sending stuff I probably don't have to send because god help me if I get billed 30 dollars for a square of sponge called a filter. Let's be clear, here- I won't receive any refunds- any of that goes to the insurance company who, C2C explicitly states, "reserves the right to bill Patient's insurance for this unit as a purchase."  Meaning, Aetna ponies up the cash for a machine C2C gets to reuse and resell. Shady, shady, shady.  I'm trying an oral appliance now, and if I ultimately need to return to CPAP I'll pay out of pocket and likely cheaper overall to a supplier that doesn't knowingly and openly makes countless people's life-threatening health challenges worse.
