WORCESTER — The liquor license of a downtown nightclub has been suspended for 60 days for a series of violations on the night of a melee there earlier this month.
Dubai Restaurant & Lounge Inc., 27 Pleasant St., was slapped with the suspension by the License Commission on Tuesday, and it took effect immediately.
Dubai also faces at least another 60-day suspension should it ever appear before the License Commission again for another violation of the commission’s rules regulations.
The establishment has been before the License Commission for six violations since August 2017.
“This commission owes a duty to the public to not allow establishments to continue in operation that condone, promote, allow or don’t even attempt to prevent problems like this, ” said Commission Chairman Anthony Salvidio. “This establishment has a history the last few years of problems. In all honesty, you’re running out of chances.”
The latest incident occurred Nov. 10. Police said it started off as a fight between two people inside the nightclub and then spilled outside on to the sidewalk in front of the building and even into the middle of Pleasant Street as traffic was going by.
During the fight outside, one person was attacked by three or four other people at once and was knocked unconscious. Surveillance video showed that the club’s security staff did nothing to break up
