I called Kuhl Marine for an estimate to replace a 70’ dock, they came to the property and Ken emailed me a quote on 8/20/19. I spent a week or two emailing Ken about specifics and minor additions to his estimate of which he agreed to all. The adjacent property had a recent dock installed and I met with Ken on 9/15/19 asking if he could finish my dock similar to the neighbors, again Ken said yes and for the original price he quoted. I ask for everything to be written in an updated contract and wanted a start date, Ken said a day or two for the update and a start time in mid-October. It is now 10-23-19 and after multiple emails and phone messages this is the response Ken Kuhl emailed to me: Bob I’m very sorry about the delay I apologize When I went to your house originally I was in between permits and saw Amon (Marine Construction) working next store so when I gave you the estimate I just bid to low because I know they are low I’m using 3x8 as clamps they are using 2x8 clamps just that alone is a major difference After meeting you and going over the job a can’t do it for that price It’s way too much custom work and expensive material Again I’m very sorry for the delay it’s not like me at all not keeping up on my emails Thank You Ken Kuhl It is unethical and not good business to quote an estimate and then not honor it. BTW, his original quote without additions was already 20% higher than the next nearest. Stay away from this “marine contractor”.
