We had an existing deck modified, plus we added a deck cover. You can tell competent workers when you watch them. They know their job and work quickly and efficiently. These guys were not experienced deck workers. They reused existing boards, which was OK, but they did not get everything to fit back together cleanly. Large gaps between boards, boards that were too short, some by .5" - .75";. The four new 4x4 posts that support the deck cover are not aligned properly, so the front and side edges of the support structure on top are not square (at 90 degrees to each other). The first set of corrugated roofing panels leaked massively. They eventually just used a small grinding tool to very crudely cut the two outside panels to match the support frame. They were supposed to come back and put a trim cover on the sides, but that never happened. When they painted the structure, they left all of the horizontal joist ends on one side completely unpainted. There is still one deck board that no attachment for about 5 feet. Now, put all this in the context of a contractor who does not return calls or texts, and who, time after time after time, does not show up when he says he will. THERE IS STILL WORK TO BE FINISHED, but he is now in Mexico due to a death in the family, and has apparently laid off all his workers (per a daughter in Mexico). Now he won't even respond to any of my texts or calls. DO NOT HIRE THIS CONTRACTOR!!!
