I would rate them negative stars if I could due to their abuse of my dog. My husband and I sought out the services of DTE Charlotte because we did not want an e-collar to be used on our puppy. Sharon told us during our screening call that they only use positive reinforcement food-based training and do not use e-collars on puppies younger than 16-weeks old. She lied. Our Finn went to training at 15 weeks old and they used the e-collar on him every day for the five days he was at their house which we didn't find out until the last day we picked him up. The e-collar they use is the Dogtra 280C which is a Korean-based company. The US patent filed by Dogtra uses the term "high-voltage" sixteen times yet the Gantkowski's claim it is not a shock collar. The Gantkowski's hold themselves out as Professional Dog Trainers, yet use the e-collar against the manufacturer's own instructions and recommendations. The Dogtra instructions state that E-collar training is another form of negative reinforcement. It should not be used on puppies under 16 weeks and it is only to be introduced to your dog for no more than 2 hours a day until your dog gets used to the e-collar, otherwise, you risk setting the dog up to associate the e-collar with anxiety, fear, and aggression. Would you put this on your child? Shawn told me he uses it at setting 80 on his dog. If they will use setting 80 on their own dog, what setting do you think they are using on your dog? They train the dogs in an unfenced, open street. Their yard has fire ants - I was bitten numerous times on both feet just standing on their front walkway. Their home is near a major highway. They are not professionals. They lied and are using the e-collars inappropriately, letting under-aged children use the e-collar on dogs inappropriately; therefore setting your dog up for failure and will blame you for it. Tormenting a dog is considered animal abuse in NC. PETA is against e-collars and Petco removed all e-collars from their shelves in 2020 because of the harmful effects. If your dog is injured by them misusing the e-collar or dies in their care, it is your fault - at least according to their contract. Please read up on e-collars before using any dog trainer that states they are positive reinforcement. They claim to have 40 years of experience yet Shawn was selling cars up until 2020 when he was let go. They bought a DTE franchise and started DTE Charlotte in January 2021 according to the NC Secretary of State's office. I am notifying the NC Attorney General of DTE Charlotte's claims and practices.
