The smoke chamber is the part of your chimney that connects the flue and the firebox opening. And it helps control drafting throughout your system. It aids in sending the smoke up the chimney and into the outside world where it belongs, rather than redirecting it back into your living room. The slanted design of the smoke chamber plays a critical role in guiding this smoke and a bad design or any damages can hinder it from doing its job effectively.
How Does It Affect The Flow Of Smoke?
So, how exactly does a faulty smoke chamber negatively impact your fireplace? Well, for one thing, it slows down the flow of smoke quite a bit. This prevents any gases from moving up and out like they are supposed to, and it will eventually cause the smoke to find its way into your home. It also causes certain areas to heat up more significantly, which can put your home in danger and increase your risk of house fires.
