The owner of Roberts Restorations refused to honor a written proposal from his company and is now holding our deposit hostage, requiring us to sign a legal document before we can get our money back. He says he's also assessing a charge of $1,285/day against our deposit because of a bad review posted by someone else. He's actually demanding that we take down someone else's review. We are in total disbelief.
The dispute began when Roberts Restoration refused to honor their proposal, followed by them jacking up the price by more than double the original bid, even though we had already paid a deposit of $10,335 towards the original bid. When I saw the updated price, I got really mad. I admit I blew my top, but who wouldn't? I emailed the owner and warned him that if he didn't honor his original proposal, I would write a review detailing my experience with his company and post it online. That sent him over the edge. He acted as if I had no right to be upset about the 117% price increase, and that he had every right to jack up the price. Then he threatened legal action against me, saying he would sue me for slander if I posted an online review. How does he know that there's anything slanderous in a review that hasn't even been written yet? I have no reason to lie about what happened, or to slander him. The truth is, he doesn't want anyone to know how he treated a customer. That's why he's refusing to return my deposit until I sign a legal document that will prevent me from telling my story. The bottom line is, he doesn't want the truth out. Well, I'm not signing anything. This guy has threatened me with lawsuits so many times, I've lost count. Now I'm forced to take legal action just to get my money back.
All we wanted was a new roof at the price we were quoted. We trusted the wrong company with our money, now we're out over ten thousand dollars. And we won't be getting a new roof any time soon either. Their holding of my deposit is preventing us from hiring another contractor, therefore delaying the project even further. I would strongly recommend NOT doing business with this company. The owner is dishonest & extremely volatile, and if you get on his bad side, look out. You could easily end up in the same situation as me and my family.
The owner will respond to this review, but you shouldn't believe anything he says. I have caught him in more than one lie. At one point, he actually denied that my original quote even existed. Yeah right. Who gives a contractor over 10 grand without receiving a quote? No one! That's how dishonest this man is.
