We see our own loved ones in every client we serve. A Desire to Serve As a registered nurse with a BSN and MSN from Queens University in Charlotte, NC, I have been privileged to work with vibrant, active and independent-living seniors since 2006. During that time, I have seen the dejection and outright depression that happens when otherwise healthy adults are forced to leave their homes to live in assisted-living facilities like group homes, nursing homes, or long-term-care facilities before they are ready I have spoken with many family members who want to do their best for their loved ones, but simply can’t provide the resources, time or care required of a full-time caregiver. A Decision to Help Some of these situations were heart-breaking and were definitely instrumental in my desire to provide non-medical companion care services. My goal is to provide the kind of resources that help adults who require assistance to live safely independent lives in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Acceptance and Respect But it is my own mother who provides the guiding philosophy for Annasus Companion Care, LLC. My mother is one of the strongest women I know. And caring for our elders is an important part of our heritage. Now that she is getting older, I want nothing more than to bring her over here to the United States where I can comfortably take care of her. She will not have it. While she is happy that I have fulfilled my dreams in my adopted homeland, my mother is determined to live out her days where she started – in Torit, South Sudan. She loves her home and maintains her independence and social life over there. As much as I don’t like her living so far away, I know that I must respect her wishes. She is an able-bodied woman with a sound mind; she should be free to live as she chooses. Our Client Service Model Annasus Companion Care brings the same level of respect that I have for my mother to every client we work with. We never forget that we are guests in our clients’ homes. Or that active seniors need to maintain as much of their independence as possible for as long as they can.
