The City of Crescent City has an American flag attached to the wooden power poles that go along Summit Street (US-17). Musgrove Construction was hired by Florida Power and light to replace the wooden poles with cement ones. In the process of doing this they use a large boom truck to drill and set the cement poles so other crews can later move the power lines to the new poles. All well and good. But the people working for Musgrove Construction Inc. in Crescent City Florida instead of removing the American flags, just jammed the boom of their truck crushing the flags against the wooden poles, often ripping them in many places. I spoke to the foreman at the site which at the time was by the Methodist Church, and he claimed they straighten up the flags when they were done. First they should have taken care not to damage our flag, which by the way is City of Crescent City property, and it does little good to go back and pull flags out of the wires they were caught in when the flags had many tears in the fabric. I guess I was especially disturbed as I grew up in Crescent City and almost exactly 45 years earlier (19 June 68) I'd returned from a combat tour of Vietnam with the First Air Cav. Nine days before I left, one of our pilots gave all for "the flag of the United States of America and the Republic for which it stands as he gave all, was killed in Action 10 June 1968.
