We had a horrible experience with Travers Construction. The owner represented themselves as a roofer at times, an insurance adjuster at times, and a general contractor. We had a hard time following exactly the role that Travers Construction was going to take. We had a difficult time with getting roofing selections. We were presented a roof sample, and made our selection. When we were going over the timeline, the owner stated that a GAF charcoal color would be installed, which we never agreed on. We asked for an Owens Corning Black Onyx. We were not given any other samples. We had to investigate roof options ourselves. When we provided a list of roofs we liked from our own investigation, we were told they were out of stock and would not be available for a year. We called the supplier directly, and were able to begin the order. The owner of Travers Construction came to our house prior without notification or any having a formal agreement signed and asked for money; specifically a Down Stroke. We found this VERY VERY STRANGE. The owner of Travers Construction also asked if had the permit. Which was odd because the owner of Travers Construction said that it would be taking care of the permit. We later realized that Travers Construction did not have an active roofing license, and a subcontractor would be used. We were assured that the roofing subcontractors that were assigned to our project were amazing, and that they have been working with Travers for years. Then come removal and install day, the owner of Travers Construction stated that this crew was horrible, and that they weren't very familiar with them. This statement contradicted the original information that we received. At this point, we had already paid 50 percent of the project, and were fearful how this project would flow moving forward. We had tar streaks on our siding and driveway when the roofing subcontractors were throwing shingles they tore off the rooftop. Also, no protective measures were taken to protect our landscaping on the initial day of removal. We had bushes and accessories destroyed for shingles being thrown off the roof. Once we complained, Travers did make sure our remaining bushes were covered. One gutter downspout was installed in the wrong area. Also, the roofer/subcontractor took part of the roof off (shingles and plywood) to connect the vent/ductwork to the bathroom fan. The roofer climbed in our home, and was literally inside our walls. The roofer pushed a 16" hole in the upstairs hallway. Travers Construction stated that only a $150 credit would be applied for the interior damage to the wall. The amount for the repair and painting of the upper half of the wall above the wainscotting is 271" x 52". As for the landscaping damage, bushes were replaced with the incorrect size and/or species. Any person who uses Travers Construction needs to make sure they have an outlined agreement, check and verify Travers Construction and subcontractor Professional Liability and Workman's Comp insurance. Make sure the home owner is listed as an additional insurance certificate holder so damage claims can be processed under Travers Construction or Subcontractors liability insurance. Make sure you get all payment waivers from the suppliers and subcontractors to make sure no liens can be placed on your home.
