I hired Drake to survey a boat we were planning to purchase, but the experience was extremely disappointing. Initially, he showed up on time, which I appreciated. The survey was done quickly - about an hour, which in hindsight, might have been too fast for a thorough assessment. After receiving the boat, we noticed that he missed a lot of issues that should have been obvious.
First, there were around 20-30 scratches on the hull that were not documents. The engines were in terrible shape, with corroded components that he missed because he never removed the cowlings to inspect them. Worse, the engines are now falling off the back of the boat (Broken motor mounts) and they are throwing multiple error coded. This level of damage suggests that the boat was poorly maintained, something he didn't;t not at all.
Additionally he said the stereo was in great shape, but half of the speakers don't work. It seems like he only checked to see if it powered on. Keep in mind this is a power catamaran that is just designed to go fast. He did not have to check components such as bathrooms, refrigerators, macerators, or any other large item. The trailer was also deemed "fine" by him, yet after seeing it, it's clear that it should not be on the road.
I reached out to him to discuss the findings with him, hoping he'd address the issues, but he "stands by his report". Unfortunately, this survey didn't portray that boat's actual condition, and we wouldn't have bought it if it had. Very dissatisfied and would not recommend.

Do NOT USE DRAKE EPPLE from Perry's Marine Survey Co!!! He surveyed the same vessel twice in less than a year and missed leaking chain plates with rotting wood BOTH times! The situation surrounding the initial survey which existed before we bought our Endeavour 42 was complicated and sketchy. He was paid to redo the survey along with haul out and sea trial. I suspect he just added haul out and sea trial to the survey he had already done 6 months prior without actually redoing the other particulars. Anyway, we would have never known about the leaking chain plates and rotted wood behind them if it were not for the fact that a wonderful surveyor, Lou Stahlberg, found the issue the first time around while surveying the boat for a prospective buyer. We will NEVER use anyone but Lou again, in the future. Needless to say, we paid for a boat that we thought was completely clear, not knowing about the chain plate issue because of Drake's incompetent survey. We will fix the issue whether or not we sell the boat because it is a major issue. However, I warn anyone who decides to use Perry's Marine Survey Co to do so with caution and avoid Drake Epple entirely.
