Bad experience with Southwell Builders. I hired Clark Southwell of Southwell Builders to build a small passive house in Maple City, and what should have been a fairly easy build became a borderline nightmare. Southwell was repeatedly forgetful, leading to numerous mistakes, some minor and some major. He didn't catch or address mistakes by contractors, leading to poor quality control, which was costly in repairs and delayed completion of the house. He also mismanaged the construction calendar, delaying scheduled completion of the house by months, and wildly overcharged me on a scheduled draw, eventually conceding it wasn't in line with the original draw schedule. On one occasion he deviated from the original plans (without consulting with me) and I only found out because it raised a red flag with an inspector and the problem it created had to be resolved. The whole experience was so bad I terminated the contract 3/4 of the way through the build, leaving the remaining work to myself and contractors I hired. It was a tough decision to let him go, but it was the only way to achieve a quality build on my forever house.
