My father had a heart attack and is hospitalized. During this I am trying to handle his affairs. I was made aware he had a storage unit and met with the owner to make arrangements to get my father’s belongings. However, he said that since my father is behind on payment I would have to pay the entire balance which he inflated to over $600 for late fees and over $100 to cut off the lock since I don’t know where the key is. I explained I don’t have that kind of money, especially since I don’t know what expenses I’m looking at in terms of paying for my father’s care. I also explained our family photos are in there and asked if I could at least get those. He laughed in my face, demanded my address, and told me if I didn’t pay him the money I couldn’t get anything and that my father’s belongings and our family photos would be auctioned off. So today I get a “final notice” from him in the mail, which is super creepy in and of itself, as I DID NOT give him my personal information. In the “final notice,” which is basically illegible and looks like it was written by a psychotic person during a manic episode, he lists “addon” charges for cleaning the storage unit, attorney fees, and other ridiculous things that I can’t make out. I almost laughed out loud because he’s sending a bill to someone who isn’t legally responsible for the charges! The best part is where he threatens to “put our names in the paper!” What section will that be printed under so I can make sure to be on the lookout? Again, I’m not legally responsible for the unit, so printing my name would be slander. Please don’t do business with this individual. I promise you that you’ll be better off... He rattled off his life story when I met with him, telling me he’s a Christian (although it certainly doesn’t appear that way) and how his previous businesses failed (shocker). Bottom line, take your business somewhere else unless you enjoy doing business with people who appear mentally unstable.
