In less than 4 years, I'm out of over $6,000 with Emperor. I have learned my lesson and will never use their mediocre, careless, rude, patch-and-go service again. June 2016: We had Emperor install a brand new Ameristar HVAC Unit after purchasing a home. It costed us $4522. May 2019: Nearly 3 years later, we had a new thermostat installed. When they installed that, they discovered that my unit had leaked 2lbs of refrigerant. They filled the refrigerant and left (my husband was home, I was not). When I got home and saw the $550 bill, I immediately emailed Tony (the supervisor, possibly owner too) and asked him (nicely and professionally) why they just topped off the refrigerant without seeing what caused the leak. I knew that would cause problems down the road and wondered why a fairly new unit was leaking anyway. He immediately got rude and defensive, I still have the emails, and told me to find another company to bother. Sadly, his email response got lost in my junk email folder for a year. If I would have seen it, I would have never spent another dime with them. April 2, 2020: Our unit was not cooling correctly. Emperor came out. They said it had leaked 3 lbs of refrigerant, the control module had gone bad, and the leaking indoor coil would have to be replaced. All of this is because they never fixed the leaking refrigerant the year before. They simply, lazily, topped off refrigerant and left. So, after leaking down into the unit for another year, I'm pretty sure that's what caused the new problems and shorted some stuff out. That cost me $300. They have to order an indoor coil and will be back to replace it. The quote is $475 (labor) for the under-warranty part. April 17, 2020: They come back to install the indoor coil. The unit is now magically 5 lbs low on refrigerant (which leaked out over the 2 weeks it took to get the part in). That cost me $750. While going back through my records and emails to gather my old Emperor receipts and contact the manufacturer (Ameristar) for some possible help or reimbursement for a bad system, I come across Tony's rude response email from a year ago. I had never saw that response. Now, I am 100% sure I will never use this company again. Folks, beware. There are better companies out there that are respectful and appreciate their customers' time and money. This is not one of them. Save yourself the headache and hard-earned money. In hindsight, I honestly think they damaged my unit during installation (possibly dropped it or broke something accidentally) but went ahead and installed it. I don't see any other reason why a new unit would start having issues, especially since Ameristar usually makes great products.
