If I could give less than 1 star..... Bob Slade is a 90's era rough framer who somehow managed to get a builders license. Even though you're paying him to be the GC he will make you manage his hobo contractors, they will all tell you how Bob doesn't pay me enough and blah blah blah.... I got tired of it. We ended up buying materials to move things along, cleaning the job site, fixing his screw ups and on and on. So many issues during construction, finish carpentry, plumbing, cabinets were wrong 3 times as they opened into each other or into appliances, the counters were wrong 3 times, no change orders, never responded to emails, he came to me after construction while he still had things to finish / fix with a dollar amount he wanted in addition written on a napkin and wanting the release of his last draws. The finish grade was not a finish grade, it wasn't even a proper rough grade. I had a detailed spreadsheet of all the fixtures, doors, contractors and crews I had to hire externally to get things done because he would give us excuses for 6+ weeks. Then he tried to have his minions at bensons lumber lean our property.... The HOA is a mess, he granted special permission to people (which isn't legal) so we have fences, sheds, commercial vehicle rules and so on that are not applied equally. It's a mess. Just find another builder.

I am going to guess the last review was somebody he knew, or extremely old. Our lives would have been immensely better had we gone with pretty much anyone else. As soon as you sign on that dotted line, be prepared for bottom of the barrel service. Bob almost never responds. He will not write down anything you tell him, then get mad and yell at you when he does not do what you asked. For the house we had in Forest Pointe, literally every single contractor aside from the well guy messed up at least one thing. Bob, Electrician, Plumber, tile guy, Bob again, cabinet people, all the rest, all had issues with what they delivered. You also end up doing a lot of Bob's job for him. You will be the one doing all vendor coordination and yet he just wants to charge you more. What he tells you you will get also changes as the project proceeds. If he says you get 2 power sockets in the basement, by the time the house was done it was magically just one. For the one year warranty, expect him to just not respond to most of your calls and texts. Not once in the entire building process did he ever respond to an email. His email address is an aol email, if that indicates anything to you. If you build through him, I suggest having it in the contract that a minimum of the last 25k is kept in escrow until after all one year warranty items have been fixed with a clause that you can draw out of it to fix stuff yourself that he fails on. Otherwise you WILL get screwed over. Seriously, just ask about any of the residents in the sub he built. On top of that, if its not specifically called out in the contract, what you get put into the house will be worse than bottom of the barrel. The hot water heater in ours, you can hear turn on even if the furnace is running and you're two floors up. It is that loud. It is off the charts expensive to run according to the energy sticker too. The basement window is the equivalent of paper mache (after his realtor told us the rating all windows would be in the house, that one wasn't and Bob refused to fix that too). His final grade on any given lot is pretty horrible. There was a massive put next to our house in one spot we had to have him fix. The rules he set up for the subdivision bylaws left lots of holes, and he allowed some people to break them for certain things as long as they signed to build, yet somehow he wouldn't sign off for others (I am pretty sure that's discrimination). He himself wouldn't follow his own rules. All the houses up by the main road were supposed to have a tree line. The bylaws say it will be maintained. By the time most of the houses were built, there were zero trees there. He doesn't care. I cannot recommend enough that you just stay away from this man. If there was actual justice in this world, he would be forced to give each and every resident here 20 to 40k to make up for the junk that needed fixing, filling, repairing, and being equipped with something actually decent. I do not know how anyone likes him after what he put most of through.

I couldn't be happier with my new home. The home is unique with great curb appeal and interesting and quality details throughout. Bob works with great contractors, too. I have been really happy with every one of them. Bob has also been extremely responsive to any issues that have come up during the warranty period. I recommend RL Slade Custom Homes without reservation, and I would work with them again.
