Dr. Safar was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Bryan Adams High School. He attended college at SMU where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Math with a minor in Biology. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed a three year residency in Internal Medicine at San Antonio.
