Children’s Corner exists to provide high quality childcare in a nurturing Christian learning evironment utilizing developmentally appropriate practices that are best suited for each child. Children's Corner is a community ministry of Lawton First United Methodist Church We acknowledge that each child is a child of God and every child has a right to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and physically in a safe and nurturing environment. We seek to serve the community by meeting the needs of families. We strive to teach young children about the Bible and Christian love through age appropriate lessons and example. Each child is a unique individual and requires nurture and guidance to develop. Our program is designed to encourage the individual growth of each child. A variety of developmentally appropriate activities are available to encourage the process of learning in a “hands on” environment. Classroom sizes are limited because children develop more positively in a small group. In order to give individual attention to each child, our child/teacher ratios meet all NECPA (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation) standards. The teachers who work with the children must be sensitive, enthusiastic, concerned, flexible and highly skilled. The quality of any early childhood program depends largely on a dedicated staff. Many of our staff are educated in the field of Early Childhood Development holding or completing either a degree or a CDA (Child Development Associate.) Our staff is selected with great care and encouraged to continue their training in child development and/or early childhood education. Each teacher must earn a minimum of 32 clock hours of training in the childcare field, each year. There are always at least three Master Teachers on staff. The Director must complete a minimum of 40 clock hours in Tier II training each year.
