I just recently finished working with Chris on my first album that I have ever created and I have not only learned a lot from the experience from Chris' knowledge, but I also have a really amazing album that exceeds what I expecting. Chris gives the right amount of feedback but also lets the artist make the shots. I also asked Chris about many things involving the recording process and he was more than willing to answer my many questions. I have known Chris since I was a child when he recorded my mom's album called Siren Song with her band Connemara. I have been very happy that I've worked with Chris for this album and for my first time making an album it was a great experience.

I have worked with Chris on several CD projects, and I'm continually impressed with his combination of skills. I'm primarily an acoustic instrumentalist, and I know that I can trust Chris to get the best sound out of my instruments no matter the recording location. He has an instinctive understanding of the acoustics of the recording space, and a great knack for using just the right mics — not to mention optimal mic placement. I have also done some vocal work with him and have been thrilled at what he's managed to get out of me, a player more than singer, to be sure! Beyond recording itself, Chris's editing is amazingly seamless, and I have found his mixes to be clear and tasteful. But to me the best part about working with Chris is the fact that he's very intuitive when it comes to understanding what a musician wants from a project, and he knows how to deliver the goods. Plus, he has great musical ideas himself, many of which have found their way onto my CDs. He's just an all-around great engineer, and I always look forward to working with him.

Chris Murphy of RHL Audio has recorded my two most recent contemporary acoustic CDs and a live concert. Words that come to mind about his work are: expert, accessible, efficient, creative, positive. His niche is on-site recording. He can help the client find a suitable space to record, whether it's a live performance space, a commercial studio, or as happened on my CDs, set up his state-of-the-art rig at the dining room table and turn my home into my personal studio. This saved me considerable overhead costs, but still gave me the highest quality recording available. Chris always seems to be at least 3 steps ahead, anticipating what needs to happen next. He's patient when it comes to addressing concerns. He's good at sensing when a musician's stress level is starting to affect their performance, and cracks a joke or two to lighten things up. I appreciate his feedback about the songs, arrangements, and performances, (it helps that he knows so much about music). For my new CD, Chris was co-producer as well as engineer. This was not only fun, but also made the music sparkle in ways I wouldn't have been able to envision by myself. Chris gives each musical situation, question, and suggestion the attention it deserves, and is genuinely open to the client's wishes. He's made it possible for me to be more creative because he has always made me feel that we could have enthusiastic, honest conversations about my goals and preferences. I can't imagine working with anyone better.

Chris Murphy is an amazing live sound engineer: professional, organized, detail-oriented. He's handled a number of gigs for my band, Dead Men's Hollow, and we always feel hugely at ease when he's the guy at the board.
