I called today to check on Real Estate Tax's for a client of mine. The Lady who answered the phone told me I had to come into their office to get the info. I explained to her I was almost two hours away and that it would be four hours of driving. She informed me that I should hire a local attorney or paralegal to go into their office and get the info. I explained to her that the data was public information and that she was hired to serve the public. What difference would it be if I drove in, hired someone to drive in that it would take a clerk the same time as a phone call to provide the information? I was then told I could fax in the info and if they had time they would reply to my request today, it was 9am. I call all over the county and get this info all of the time and have never been told they will not give the info over the phone. Why are the good people of Covington paying them to provide this kind of service to the public. All I am trying to do is collect the tax's due their office and do them and the city a favor by collecting the money and then submitting it to them. They should be thanking me for doing their job and helping the city collect the money that is rightfully due them. Why on earth would you refuse to help someone because they called on the phone?
