Dr. Farris was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated as "Boy of the Year" as part of a senior class of well over 700 students in 1969 from Will Rogers High School with numerous scholastic and academic awards and honors. He went on to attend The University of Tulsa under scholarship where he received the Bachelor of Science degree in 1973. He was then accepted as one of only 5 contract students from Oklahoma to attend The University of Houston College of Optometry where he graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree as part of an accelerated program 6 months early in December, 1977.
