The formation of the Sarasota Ballroom Dance Company in 1989 set the stage for a decade of local, national and international performances by area talent. The dance company appeared at the World Standard Championship in Holland in addition to numerous venues across America, in Russia, Greece and national championships in the U.S. In 1991, the Institute for Art and Sport Dancing was established to provide funding for local youth dance awareness programs. The programming included dance classes and cultural education for area elementary, middle and high school students as well as the University of South Florida and New College.
