I believe Jeff and his Bike Shop in Centreville is one of the reasons why local bike shops get a bad name and lose business. I bought a used bike for 600 dollars from his shop for weekend rides. Although I had plenty of options to buy online from Craigslist or eBay etc but wanted to support our local bike shops. However, it was a pretty bad experience. On the first ride, the saddle and seat post busted. Thought it might be the seat post clamp issue, but it was not only it. The front tire started to go flat. It also had a broken nozzle, so had to replace the tube, and checked the inner tire for any sharp objects, but it was going flat again. SO had to take Bike Shop. I was told by Jeff that when you buy a used bike, you should expect these things. On the Saddle issue, he said that the previous owner might have replaced the saddle with the wrong one. I asked if it isn't their job to check the bikes before they sell them? he had no answer to that, except that he will take care of it. And on the issue with the tire, he said I should expect that. I am not sure if I should expect a flat tire twice a day and if that is normal for a used bike? The Bike Shop has no return, replacement or any policy with their faulty bikes. Once you are out of the door, you are stuck with it. So like a good citizen, I left the bike in his shop and congratulated him on his new bike and left. Will I ever buy a bike from any of my other local shops! I pretty much doubt that.
