Tom Kanavos who began taking in individuals struggling with chronic homelessness and substance abuse, founded TTAP in 2001. In addition to his passion, Tom used his business expertise to expand the program into 12 homes and incorporate the agency in 2006. The first home was located on Turrill St. in San Bernardino, hence the agency name.
Since 2006, TTAP has undertaken numerous efforts to increase the administrative and programmatic capacity of the organization to Include:
• Established partnership with Loma Linda Veteran's Hospita l/VA Healthcare System Outreach Program
• Adoption of the VA Continuum of Care plan to adhere to an Integrated system of care for homeless veterans
• Networking with other nonprofits and local businesses to Increase potential resources beneficial to clients' recovery
• Board development -- recruitment of board members who are skilled and knowledgeable in non-profit management, housing and substance abuse, with expertise in areas such as fiscal, programs and administration.
• SBETA professional, business, technical training - continuing education through the STAR12 program, by Rockhurst University Continuing Education Center, NC.
• Annenberg Foundation's Alchemy+ Leadership Training composed of highly participatory sessions designed to address the specific needs of participating nonprofit organizations and their leaders.
• The Community Foundation(Weingart Foundation)"Western Capacity Building" Training
• Training through the Veterans Administration through The Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain injury monthly webinars.
Additional milestones in the agency resource development history Include:
• Award from the Department of Veteran Affairs for Capital Grant ($329,647) and Per Diem Program for a 21-bed Transitional Housing Program for Veterans
• Raised an additional $573,170 ($370,607 cash and $202,563 n-Kind) from private foundations, Unions, and Corporations for the Transitional Housing Program for Veterans (San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, California Wellness Foun
