I hired Chris Smith (Smith's Roofing/CJ Smith Roofing), recommended by the Historic Albany Foundation, to replace my EPDM flat roof. The project cost $26,000. There were issues with the quality of the work, and the contractor has not been responsive to our concerns. After the work was completed, I noticed significant gaps where the newly installed drip edge meets the brick wall side. The new drip edge is shorter than the old one, leaving gaps that could potentially lead to water infiltration. Additionally, a portion of the roof drainage pipe was broken during the roof installation process. Despite multiple attempts to contact Chris Smith and resolve these issues, including sending photos and requesting on-site visits, he has not taken any corrective action. Initially, he promised to review the photos and address the concerns but has not followed up. We have owned our home for 9 years and I care about making sure the work done to maintain our old building is done properly, especially given our limited budget. It's troubling when subpar work on historic buildings goes ignored, as it makes keeping and maintaining them even harder. Consider this when hiring for roofing work.
