I recently had the opportunity to participate in a fund raising effort for this organization.The compassion they show towards people and their love of animals is simpy exceptional.They served about 50 families who were financially challenged and unable to feed their pets on this particular Sunday.The families then came to the rummage sale where they were able to obtain everything from housewares, clothing, furniture and pet supplies.They were not asked to pay, they were given these items. The only thing the families were asked to do was to pay it forward when you can. Help someone else in need; take what you want, but please do not sell it.I met some terrific people, with heart wrenching stories about how they lost their jobs, extensive medical conditions, loss of familily members which created the financial struggles they were having.These people desperately wanted and needed to keep their pets; their children.This organization made this happen! They have a great team of volunteers, who give of themselves everyday to be prepared to provide pet food and products so others can keep their pets. They provide daily emergency pet food as well as a pick up site every other week to distribute pet food. The average number of families they serve is climbing. Having participated in this event serves as a reminder of how grateful we should be for having people like this in the world and how truly "small" our own challenges may be.
