Avoid!
We used Eckloff Tile in late 2010 to purchase tiles and related materials for us for a home improvement project. They are a husband and wife team (Charles and Darlene Eckloff) also listed on Angie’s List as Eckloff Ceramic Tile Installations. In our opinion we would avoid using this contractor at all costs! They requested payment in full up front for the materials and when the time came to provide the materials we found out that they had only paid a deposit to the supplier and they were unable to complete payment on the materials. We asked them to make us whole and waited for some time and they were completely unresponsive. We ended up having to take them to small claims court to try and get our money back (several thousand dollars!) and the judgment was awarded in our favor in January 2012. As of this date, they have not satisfied the judgment. This whole process has taken considerable time and money and we will need to take many further legal steps to attempt to collect. Search Darlene and Charles Eckloff on the Maryland Judiciary Case Search public website at casesearch.courts.state.md.us/ and you will see multiple civil cases against this contractor including many that are still active. In addition, on searching the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation website, Charles Eckloff of Eckloff tile is not licensed. When we called the department they stated that tiling contractors have to be licensed in the state of Maryland to do home improvement
