"Me and my staff will be there whenever your child needs me !"
(As you will read, for our child, this could not be further from the truth. Excuses, blame, finger pointing and inaction was more our experience with Stephanie below, no matter her rebuttal !!!).
We met Stephanie Mauro, the only employee of CP101 we ever met or talked to at an RCK HS sponsored event at John Jay HS
We explained that she is new to this country, from Brazil. And she didn't need the things many local kids did. She was already going to DCC. She just needed help with standardizing tests, like the SAT & and financial aid programs for college. Stephanie said, "Don't worry I've got this and if you or your daughter EVER needs me or any of my staff, we'll be there."
That is what Stephanie said in October 2022. Although I'm a disabled Ground Zero 1st Responder on a tight pension, she took our, $3200, without hesitation on the spot.
So to work with her testing time management problem she was given practice tests.
I tried to schedule a prep class, not a practice test, weeks went by with no return call or email. Finally, she tells me that my daughter isn't a priority now her current "kids" needed her. I said, "Isn't my daughter one of those kids?" She said, "Well, we have time with her. Give me a few weeks to get these college applications done, I'll get back to you guys soon."
Not hearing from her before the holidays, I gave her more time, I waited a few more weeks after the holidays and called & emailed. Nothing.
Finally, in March, I emailed that I was displeased with her lack of response, and with an SAT approaching. So after an unhappy discussion, on my part, we set up another SAT prep class.
After, I repeatedly called for an update. Almost ten days later, she told me she's still doing badly with her time management, and she basically said she didn't have time. But this was one of OUR main reasons for hiring you ?" You are putting her alone in a room with a practice test and not teaching or preparing her. If we're in the wrong place why did you take our money ?
She then said, "Maybe your daughter should redo the 12th grade?" I then as calmly as I could said, " She speaks three languages, pretty much perfect English, has a 96 average in all of her classes, is taking calculus as well as four college level regents classes. WTH, she needs your help, guidance, & some patients working on these standardized tests. She then said, "I have other students, but she'd think about it."
After over a week with no response, I wrote her a super non-confronational email that requested a cancelation in our partipation in her program and the balance of our money back, I got a call back blaming everyone else and I didn't understand the process. See, my older daughter is a doctor, so I "understand it" . I told her that my wife had started recording because she was acting very unprofessional, & we we firm on our request.
Her mood started to change drastically, & she started asking me, "Why was I doing this to her." I said this was clearly a job she shouldn't have taken. Then she said, "I was going to "give" you half, now you get nothing." I calmly said we would be going to court.
She admitted, on tape, that her program would help my daughter "in the future" not now. But she couldn't justify keeping $1600 for no service given now. Later that day she refunded me only half.
UPDATE: Small claims case is being prepared to be filed.
BTW what STAFF? Well under FOIL, "ALL" College Planning101 Inc's publicly filled business records will be in our hands very soon. I'm interested to see why no one ever called me back when I left message after message. I saw she had paid contractors to do things she's unqualified for, but was never helped by staff.
