My wife and I bought a new home from BF Stephens Inc in 2019. Instead of a home warranty, they asked us to rely on Virginia law which is very specific about how the builder of a new home must handle warranty claims that are submitted within the first year. Overall, it is a very nice house. We would be thrilled except for a short list of issues that Mr. Stephens has not yet corrected: . . . Hardwood floors were improperly installed and exposed to extreme temperatures and excessive humidity. . . . One of our rain gutters has a huge dent that leaks water. . . . There are several long cracks in our concrete foundation. . . . Our driveway is sinking and water puddles form after every rain. . . . There are several dents in the aluminum trim around our garage door. . . . Our basement patio door was installed incorrectly. It doesn't close properly and outside air leaks in. . . . We have sinkholes appearing in our yard where the ground wasn't properly compacted. We are disappointed that these issues have gone unresolved for so long. Sadly, we have been left with no choice but to hire a lawyer and take Mr. Stephens to court. All we want is the house that we paid for.
