I would like to comment on the negative review submitted by David Zisman. I was working with Benoit Construction on that project. I work for the lumber supplier that Benoit Construction was buying his materials from. The project was a new Ipe deck on the front of David's house. I know that David's wife, an architect, stipulated that the Ipe boards for this deck had to be full length with no butt joints and blind screwed down. That means that the edge of the deck boards would have to have a groove cut into them so that a metal bracket can be inserted into the groove and a trim head screw would then go through the bracket and secure it to the deck joist below. The problem that was encountered with this project was that the only Ipe boards that we could get at the time that were long enough for that section of deck had a groove already cut along the entire length of the boards. David's wife did not want to see the grooves at the end of the boards since there would be exposed ends. That meant that the only way a board could work is if it did not have any groove cut into it and then Benoit Construction would use a biscuit jointer to cut small individual grooves only large enough for the metal bracket and only where the metal brackets would go. This would leave the entire end of the board completely in tact with no visible grooves at the ends. The problem was that there were no ungrooved Ipe boards available from anywhere in the entire United States and even from Brazil. There were boards ready to be delivered that were stuck on cargo ships that were parked offshore waiting for permission to dock and unload. Due to Covid-19 there was no way to get those ships to shore or unload any of the material on board. So, David Zisman was wrong. There were Ipe boards on the job site, but those boards were for a different part of the deck job and could not be used where needed because they were fully grooved and David's wife specifically refused to have Benoit Construction use those particular boards. I know that due to the situation and trying to be as accommodating as possible, Mr. Benoit from Benoit Construction gave David Zisman a very generous discount from the amount that Benoit Construction had invoiced for the work completed to that point. So, for David Zisman to suggest that Mr. Benoit or Benoit Construction did anything wrong is preposterous. As the supplier of the Ipe material I can tell you absolutely that the required materials were not on site at the project and that no one on earth could have provided the correct materials because I literally called every place on planet earth that distributes or produces Ipe deck boards and there were absolutely zero available. Trust me, I spent days calling everywhere with no luck. David sold the house and Mr. Benoit was hired by the new homeowner to do some different work at the house and he ordered some siding materials from us. I visited the site and saw that the deck was finished and that whoever did the work did so with the incorrect boards and all the ends have very visible grooves all the way to the very end of the boards and that is not what David's wife wanted. So, David Zisman is wrong, and Jacques Benoit and Benoit Construction did an amazing job on that project and took a huge hit on the costs just trying to appease David. I would highly recommend Jacques Benoit and Benoit Construction to all of my customers and anyone that wants the very best work performed by the most professional, skilled, and caring group of outstanding carpenters and just all around genuinely nice people. Benoit Construction does amazing work and you should hire them.
David Zisman
Took him 5 months to complete 30-40 % of the job and charged me for 80% of the estimated price for completion. He claimed he was waiting for the wood to arrive due to COVID but the wood had been sitting in my driveway for months. Also neglected other jobs he could have completed if indeed he was waiting for wood. Stay away from Jacques Benoit. Not trustworthy. I feel he ran with my money and didn't deliver. Hope this helps the public out there.
