I was remodeling my kitchen and had contracted Total Service Electrical LLC to do the installation of cabinet mounted electric double wall oven, electric wiring of center island, and replacement of ceiling lights for the new kitchen. Tom of Total Electric had visited my home during the remodeling process and I had shown him the instruction manuals and specifications of Double wall oven, gas cook top, specifications of center island, and the ceiling lights I had purchased for the fixture replacement. I let him know that it was mandatory that he send his people to install the double oven and do the center island wiring while the cabinet guys were still in the house so in case there was any problem with cabinet cut out for double oven, it will get corrected. He agreed and I let him know the date and time to come in for the work. After multiple phone calls and text messages and 4 hours late he sent one electrician to do the wiring and installation of double oven which weighed over 400 lbs and which he needed to bring from garage to my new kitchen. The electrician said he did not know what he was coming here for and by the time he got to my home, the cabinet people had finished and already left. He called for another guy and in the meantime started with wiring of the center island which required putting an electric socket for electric hookup of gas cook top. He opened the new gas cook top box and decided where he needed to drill in the new cabinet to bring the wiring in and put the electric junction box for the cook top electric plug. I later learned that the junction box was placed in a wrong spot and it interfered with connecting the gas line to the gas cook top, even though the cook top instruction manual clearly specified the location of electric junction box inside the island cabinet.
Two hours later, another electrician came and they brought the double oven inside the cabinet. The oven had a instruction sheet taped to the front of the oven door stating to remove the oven door prior to installation and not to lift the oven using the oven doors. These guys ignored the instructions and lifted the oven with doors and tried to shove the double oven in the opening of my newly installed cabinet. After multiple attempts they could not shove the double oven all the way inside the cabinet. It seemed like the electric fuse box they had installed on the back wall for double oven was in the way. Again, instead of reading the installation instruction manual for correct positioning of fuse box, they randomly drilled and moved fuse box and number of times. They even drilled in the back body of the new double oven to move the cable that was wrapped on the back of oven. I was alarmed at the level of incompetence and got very concerned that they were going to damage the new cabinet and the double oven. They had already put a couple of scratches on my new kitchen floor.
I called the cabinet installer and requested him to come back to help with the oven installation. Several hours later, with the help of the cabinet guy, these guys were able to slide in the oven. The ceiling lights never got done.
Once my kitchen re modelling was done in next few days, I decided to use the double oven for the first time. There was lot of smoke the first time I turned it on and I had a repairman come in to make sure all was ok with the double oven. He informed that smoke was ok as it burns off the oil coating during first use, but he found several damages to the oven done during installation process. The blue paint on the sides of oven had chipped, the inlet vent at the base of the double oven got bent and would not sit flushed against the cabinet. I worried about the fire safety of the oven as these guys had drill holes in back body of the oven. During the forced insertion and repeat failures to install, one of the electrician had gone in the garage to grab a stick. He used the stick to bang the back of the oven to dislodge whatever it was that was keeping the oven from sliding all the way back. It was a nightmare. I did call Tom who defended his electricians and insisted that they knew what they were doing. He said he will come over to take a look at it but never did. I ended up changing the double oven as I worried about the fire hazard from damaged oven and electric junction box. The new oven was installed by professionals who knew what they were doing. This time no banging the back of oven with a stick or use of undue force to push the oven. The junction box was re located to the correct position so it was out of the way.
My experience with Total Service Electric LLC was as unpleasant and as scary as it can get. I will be not be using this company for any electrical work or any other type of work ever.
