After beginning his academic training by earning a Bachelor of Science degree at George Washington University, Dr. Kaplan elected to do post-graduate work in genetics at the same school. Dr. Kaplan was a resident in General Surgery at Boston University Affiliated Hospital and a resident in Ophthalmology at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He also completed a pre-residency fellowship in Glaucoma at Tufts New England Medical Center and a Clinical Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases at the University of Illinois' Eye & Ear Infirmary.
