The idea started during Tony's period of travel throughout China in 2006 and began to develop as he backpacked Southeast Asia in 2008. Tony met many tea farmers and became immersed in tea culture throughout China, Malaysia, Cambodia, India, Nepal, And Thailand. After his travels, Tony moved back to Chicago and met Erin in 2009, Erin became interested in tea as well and they realized that there are not any great places to buy tea in Chicago -- they decided it was time to start Chicago Tea Garden.
