The Equipment Connection is the disAbility Resource Center’s adaptive medical equipment reuse program. We accept new and gently used equipment, clean and repair it, and then return it to those in the community who would not otherwise be able to obtain it. The Equipment Connection is the disAbility Resource Center’s adaptive medical equipment reuse program. We accept new and gently used equipment, clean and repair it, and then return it to those in the community who would not otherwise be able to obtain it. Any individual with a disability, permanent or temporary, can receive assistance. A referral from a health care professional is needed if obtaining a wheelchair or scooter for long-term use. Individuals are provided the equipment they need, provided it is in stock, and are able to keep it for their use. However, when a person is done with the items they’ve used and no longer need them, they are asked to donate their equipment back to the Equipment Connection. The struggle to regain physical mobility and independence after a serious illness or injury can be a challenging experience. For many people, specialized equipment is needed to aid in recovery, provide mobility, and live as independently as possible. Very often, however, there is limited or no insurance for this equipment. In many cases, people are on limited incomes and cannot afford the necessary items that will support them to live at home and access the community. Recycling durable medical equipment, particularly outgrown children’s equipment, keeps it out of landfills and provides help to others.
