Six weeks ago, I paid $130 to reserve Tom's Sumo Mania suits for our 3/9/13 event. Two days before the event (3/7/13), we paid him $50 to bring the suits one hour early. At 5:30pm on 3/7/13 (the event starts this Saturday, 3/9, at 8:30am), he decided to say that our ring had to be put on grass. I called him to explain that at no time, in email or over the phone, had he stated that the ring had to be on grass. I pointed out that we had tons of mats ready to line the edge of the ring, and we could also investigate additional grassy spaces to be used for the event tomorrow (Friday). His response was to say that he was not showing up. I explained that we had already advertised, in color, to over 500 people that his sumo suits would be at the event. He said he did not care. He said he didn't care about the money we will lose by scrambling for a last minute vendor. And my money (and my colleague who paid $50 today) has still not been refunded. I want a full refund of what we paid ($180), in addition to coverage of the advertising costs ($400) that were spent on color flyers advertising sumo suits (which are now false advertising due to him not honoring our agreement.). I also want a written apology to all STAR Education staff and for his company to pay the difference between what we paid for his sumo rental and whatever cost is charged to us tomorrow when we arrange for a last minute rental.
