This is a family business. Honest, licensed and bonded Masonry company, that does residential and commercial, small and large jobs located here in Tucson. The owner-general manager actually answers his phone and returns calls promptly. The workers are polite, respectful, show up promptly, and work tirelessly the whole day through.
Borja Unique Masonry is more than a family business; it’s a legacy of over 30 years of experience passed down from father to son and family members who work side by side, highly skilled in masonry with an overall love for the job and pride in their craftsmanship. ====================================================
====The company is owned and operated by Asael Borja aka A.B. who is also the general manager. A.B. holds a specialty dual license in Masonry, he is both certified with (C-31) MASONRY; and (R-31) MASONRY licenses which means they are certified to do all aspects of commercial masonry and residential masonry; and they do both masonry construction and repair. They are in good standing with Registrar of Contractors (ROC) https://roc.az.gov/contractor-search?Id=a0Yt000000ACHITEA5 LIC# 277353

===========We have lived in NW Tucson for 16 years and were getting ready to have our house painted when it was discovered our wall was failing and our painter said it should be repaired before we paint. So we contacted 7 masonry companies to repair a 27’ foot x 6’ foot wall that sits atop a 3 foot retaining wall that divides our home and an alleyway by the desert wash. Our wall was failing after many years, stucco on the outside and rotting wood on the inside, if you pushed against it, it would move {{scary}}! We decided not to use stucco at all and instead replace it with a solid and strong concrete block wall. Some Masonry companies did not do residential, some said our job was too small, others only did new construction not repair, and others only did retaining walls from start to finish. So we were very happy to find Borja Unique Masonry who does it all! And Borja Unique Masonry answered their phone directly and we didn’t have to wait around for days for a call back. ================================================ Having a wall built is much more than just cementing blocks together, there are specific codes, specifications and guidelines, knowing when a permit is required or not required, when and if a structural engineer is required, and other important things that must be adhered to. Another reason we chose Borja Unique Masonry with their dual Masonry licenses.
============================================== ==========THE JOB:
After getting HOA approval we were ready to start the job (A.B. graciously provided us with the plans and drawing) so we could attach to our application). Our HOA got back to us with the approval within 1 week. Because of the height of our wall we did not need a permit nor a structural engineer. I also verified this with PIMA Country building codes office at (520) 724-6490 x9415.
==================================================
=======The job took 4 days from start to finish. 174 square foot wall consisting of 195 grey concrete blocks (8x8x16); vertical rebar at every 48” O.C, each side of control joints, end, and corners; solid grout at every vertical rebar including bond beam/rebar block; horizontal rebar at bond beam; horizontal weep holes at every 48” O. C. with PVC radius of 1”diameter. Old wall was demoed, along with a large 1.5’ feet of cement footing, scaffolding was erected to work at height; at the end of each workday installed temporary orange protective fencing which protected our exposed backyard from intrusion especially from wildlife since we are situated on the wash and alleyway.
================================================== ==========We paid 50% deposit for materials before start of job and the balance upon completion. Our total cost was $3,210. To have it done right and per code was worth every penny!
We met with the workers each morning (they arrived between 8am-8:30am) to make sure they had free access to our electrical hookup, water source/hose, and yard. Since I am home during the day I checked status of the work every 4 hours, and the workers obliged me taking photos.
Every day A.B. (owner/general manager) came by for at least an hour and even joined in side by side working with the builders so he was there to answer any of our questions, address any concerns, and keep us up to date with the work progress. On the last day all debris was cleaned and removed and disposed at appropriate disposal site.

==============HAPPY ENDING:
We are very happy and more than satisfied with our beautiful, strong, sound and perfectly constructed wall and we cannot wait to see it painted Baja White to match our house next month. We highly recommend Borja Masonry to anyone who wants the job done right and who appreciates an owner/general manager who is hands on and willing and able to meet the customer’s needs. Keep in mind us customers also must do our part, being on time, polite, keeping in contact and open communication too. Those things together I am convinced ensured our job went smooth from start to finish! By final walk-thru there were no issues to discuss because each day any issues, concerns, questions were addressed each day.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND BORJA UNIQUE MASONRY & WILL USE AGAIN:
We are also planning to have Borja Unique Masonry construct a 2’ foot x 25’ foot small retaining wall in our garden next year.
