What is LENS? LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) is an exceedingly mild form of non-cognitive biofeedback. Typical biofeedback requires the recipient to watch a computer screen while engaging in a mental process that feeds back information to the computer and results in changes in the screen images. LENS is non-cognitive, which means that the client does not have to do anything but sit quietly in the treatment chair. How does it work? The emerging science of brain plasticity is at the core of this treatment, suggesting that the brain changes and adapts throughout life, rather than reaching ‘stasis’ (static state) in adulthood. Neurofeedback practitioners theorize that the brain, in sensing its own activity, will be stimulated to repair the damaged neural pathways to function at an optimal level. LENS Neurofeedback uses a frequency that correlates with the individual’s dominant brainwave frequency. During this process, brain waves either reduce or increase in power, depending on the brain’s specific regulation needs. Sounds interesting. But what can it help with?
