I utilize a patient centered, compassionate therapeutic approach with all of my valued patients. I work with patients who present with a wide variety of psychological conditions. I particularly enjoy helping those who suffer from anxiety disorders, such as panic disorder (panic attacks), social anxiety, generalized anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and phobias. I also work with children and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD / ADD), primarily through neurofeedback. I frequently work with patients who suffer from major depression and related depressive disorders, such as dysthymia. Lastly, I provide psychological evaluations (typically conducted for diagnosis and treatment), ADHD assessment with continuous performance testing, and academic / intelligence testing (excluding public schools).
My therapeutic approach is to target the patient's core, debilitating symptoms that often involve a multitude of evidenced- or research-based approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, behavioral activation, prolonged exposure therapy, solution focused therapy, and psychophysiological treatments (i.e., biofeedback and neurofeedback). Individualized treatment plans are designed to meet each patient's unique goals.
I am also trained to work with medical patients with challenging or complex medical conditions with comorbid psychological factors that contribute to the primary medical condition. For example, I work with patients who suffer from migraine headaches or want to implement healthy lifestyle modifications for smoking, obesity, diabetes, etc.
With respect to my training, I received a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine (APA-approved program) from University of North Texas (UNT), a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from University of Texas – San Antonio. I am Board Certified in Neurofeedback (BCN) by BCIA. My PhD program adapted a biopsychosocial approach to psychological assessment and treatment with an emphasis in psychophysiology, behavioral health, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy / Theory, neurofeedback, quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG), and peripheral biofeedback. I also attended UNT-Health Science Center (UNT’s medical school) as a part of a consortium agreement where I received training in peripheral biofeedback and basic and clinical pharmacology.
