Whether you take our Vinyasa Flow, Iyengar Beginner Series, Sunrise or Lunch hour, Devi classes invite students to explore and attain an embodiment of spirit through a vigorous asana practice focusing on the breath, intention and a meditation practice to train the mind. These disciplines ultimately co-mingle into a harmonious dance between the physical and emotional body instilling peace of mind and clarity in the practitioner. As the new kid on the block for the ever expanding array of yoga studios in Williamsburg Brooklyn, we are committed to teaching Yoga as a means of restoring and healing the body, mind and spirit.
Aside from our Devi Hour and Flow classes we also offer a beginners series taught by Level II Iyengar teachers. This series is a must for anyone interested in truly learning the yoga practice from the floor up in its most technical form. Taught in the traditional Iyengar style, these classes do not use music and work extensively with props. We highly encourage all beginners to attend these classes before engaging in the popular flow classes. We also offer a mixed "Flow-n-Restore" class which offers the best of two worlds, an "Embodiment Flow" class which dives deep into breath and muscle to awaken areas of the body that have been shut down by past experiences and our "Moon,Stars and Sun" class that explores our physical connection and identification to the seasons and phases of the natural world.
From Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras to Shamanic, Buddhist teachings, to Philosophical and Psychological belief systems, a broad array of traditions and wisdom can be expected to be addressed in a Devi class. Asana sequences are creatively choreographed and paired with anatomically precise cuing for each student. Loving and intuitive assists help the student deepen their experiential physical awareness. Our Vinyasa classes guide the student into alignment with their own physical rhythm unearthing their truest identity through a moving meditative practice while creating a safe environment for students to explore their emotional body and mind. We strive to create a Bhava (the mood of ecstasy, self-surrender, and channeling of Prana (emotional energies) induced by tuning into the divine self) within every class. Incorporating meditation into each class, we stress the significance of developing a personal practice both on and off the mat in order to find the joy in one's practice by finding a balance between applied action and surrender within every pose.
