Lourie and Sons: The Continuation of a Business Legacy Founded Over 100 Years Ago. Our History The original Lourie's was founded in 1912 as a department store by Ann Lourie in St. George, SC. After relocating to Columbia, SC in the late '40s, Ann's sons, Sol Lourie and Mick Lourie, opened their first Columbia, SC location on the 1400 block of Main Street. In 1960, the store was moved to its now historical flagship store location at the corner of Main Street and Taylor Street. In the ensuing years, the family business grew, opening locations in Dutch Square Mall, Columbiana Centre, Columbia Mall, and Trenholm Plaza. Sol Lourie passed away in 1985, and Lourie's was managed by Mick Lourie, Barry Lourie, Frank Lourie, Louis Lourie, and Joel Lourie. Barry Lourie left Lourie's Inc. in 1999 to pursue his banking career. As global economic conditions worsened, however, Lourie's, Inc. decided to finally close its flagship store at 1601 Main Street in 2009. The "Lofts at Lourie's", residential living units, are now located at Main and Taylor. It would have ended there but for the resolve of Sol Lourie’s Son, Barry, and his grandson, Jeremy. Determined not to let Lourie's, Inc become just a part of ancient history, Barry and Jeremy launched the Lourie and Sons online store. Still specializing in fine men’s clothing and accessories, the Lourie's tradition of quality clothing at affordable prices continues.
