What is an elopement photographer? Is it difficult to work with a couple? What are the legal requirements? A: An elopement photographer is one who is the sole photographer and is present at the wedding for at least the duration of the wedding ceremony and photograph the photographs only. Elopement photographers are either independent photographers who have established their own practices or photographers who are working under a studio for hire. While many elopement photographers use their personal discretion when shooting an elopement, in each case, their goal is to portray the subject of an elopement as best they can. In many cases, the elopement photographer will work closely with the couple for at least a week, perhaps even a month, to ensure the couple is content with the image that they choose. The photographer will also take many photos throughout the day of the elopement to capture those important photographs that no one else in the family will be able to capture on film for later generations. As long as the elopement photographer is present with the couple throughout the day, they will be able to ensure all the elopement subjects are able to look the way they have envisioned them to the photographer and feel as comfortable as possible in the photographs that they want. In each case, an elopement photo shoot will vary substantially from the wedding photography session, though each of them will look very different. Some elopement photographers will prefer and rely on natural light instead of flash, while others will use flash. Some will utilize one or more lights while others utilize a combination of lights and flashes. They will also rely on a variety of equipment for the photo shoot in which they are working to capture every photo they want for the album. Elopement photographers are in the same family of photographers as most wedding photographers in Maui, Hawaii.
