Progressive Martial Arts Academy offers martial arts training in a fun, family friendly environment. Shōrin-ryū (小林流?) comes from Okinawa, Japan and is one of the major modern Okinawan martial arts. It was founded by Choshin Chibana in 1933 and came to this country in the early 1960's. Students are instructed according to traditional Okinawan technique involving the use of hands, feet, knees and elbow. This style of karate emphasizes kata (traditional forms) in which the students learn to combine blocking and offensive techniques. Additional training involves circle, line and floor exercises as well as self-defense tactics. We teach this traditional martial art in a new and progressive way. By incorporating arts like Western Boxing, Jiu-jitsu, and others, we teach fundamentals in a unique and dynamic fashion. Kids, teens and adults alike, learn in a fun and engaging environment.
