I found that studying with Flashcards was at least on par with its pen and paper counterpart. So I searched through online flashcards and after a long search I found brain flips and called them straight away. Each card allows for the creation of a hint that can be accessed via a small button that appears on the side of the screen, or by hitting the corresponding keyboard shortcut.
