I was new to boating and bought a 29’ tiara. I hired Carl to do the survey , cost me about $800 as I recall maybe a little less. The day I got the boat and took it out with my broker we discover a major issue (water leak) that Carl never told us about or discovered during his inspection and water trials . Not sure how that is when it took us about 2 minutes on the water to find it and I had to hire someone to repair it the first week. After I confronted him about it I found out he had a relationship of some sort with the previous owner, acquaintances if not friends but he defended the guy when I challenged the issue with the boat . There were things he did call out in the survey that was certainly accurate and had I had the experience I have today I probably would not have bought it. However, I don’t see how such a significant leak could have went undetected on the water trials. I wasn’t there because I trusted the survey would capture anything wrong. First thing my broker said was. “Why hire someone if they aren’t going to give you a good survey”. I feel like my inexperience was taken advantage of , that’s just my opinion. This guy did a poor job in my opinion and I certainly would never recommend him to anyone given my experience.
