Belfast Bay Shade Company is a small, fast growing artisanal workshop that specializes in fine art lampshades, artisan lighting, custom fabric design, fine home goods including pillows, upholstery cushions, curtains and totes as well as home design consults. Influenced by American Folk Art, the Arts and Crafts Movement, Japanese Akari lanterns, and Bauhaus, our shades have been likened to fire-light and glasswork with two distinct life forms -- unlit they are fine art prints, and electrified they are glowing works of art. Our fusion aesthetic continues to evolve with a consistent design goal – create enduring and beautiful functional design. Belfast Bay Shade Co. lampshades can be found locally in Maine galleries, gift shops, lighting and interior design showrooms spanning Portland to Mount Desert Island, in more than a dozen US cities and towns and as far away as Mantova, Italy. We’re located on the top floor of the historic Belfast post office and our print studio and lighting showroom are open to the public during regular showroom/studio hours and Belfast Friday Night Art Walks, or by appointment. Our Linen lampshades are printed with color-fast dyes on a linen/cotton blend and constructed with love in our Belfast studio. All of our shade designs come from images pulled off our etching presses, using printing plates that we’ve created. Our shades are made with durable materials, designed to be inspiring, easy to clean, as well as dent and dust resistant. All of our linen motifs can be easily adapted to colors and tones that suit your needs and aesthetic tastes. The motifs for our line of Linen Botanical shades are created from the wild and cultivated plants that we find in our gardens, fields and woods here, in Waldo County, Maine. Our botanical designs are bold and dynamic, allowing you to bring the Maine outdoors, indoors year-round. Our graphic line of Linen Carnival shades with their mid-century modern appeal can be the focal point of a room, while our Linen Rhoda and Stripes offer softer botanical imagery and stripes in color-coordinated patterns that redefine illuminated art and as a decorative accent or transitional motif. All our shades are titled, dated and signed by the artist. We are also expanding our product line, in partnership with local seamstress Chandra Devi, to include pillows, curtains, and slip covers with our original designs and fabrics.
