Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art used to control an opponent in ways that force him to submit by using techniques such as chokes and joint manipulations. Controlling your opponent is generally easier on the ground than in a standing position, so many of the techniques used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) are centered around the skill of being able to take an opponent down to the ground and wrestle for dominant control.
