I have been involved in sports medicine since becoming a student athletic trainer at San Jose State. There I worked with the football, baseball, soccer and track teams. I also worked as a assistant training camp athletic trainer for the SF 49ers in the summer and fall of 1988. After I graduated I returned to school to complete my pre-medical studies and worked as an athletic trainer in a physical therapy clinic and with Yerba Buena High School. After graduating medical school I completed my residency in emergency medicine at Highland General Hospital in Oakland CA. I am now working at a trauma center in San Jose CA and I am one of the team physicians for Cabrillo College in Aptos CA and the Santa Cruz Warriors, the D-league basketball team in Santa Cruz. I also have a sports medicine clinic in Santa Cruz where I see all types of sports injuries but specialize in the management of concussions and regenerative medicine. I have developed a fibrin binding protein that is combined with a contrast agent that is intended to help diagnose blood clots. I have also developed the HHITT program (Handheld Head Injury Treatment Tool) that helps diagnose and guide return to play after a concussion.
